Table tennis player Sukh Shakya passes away

Former table tennis player and former assistant coach Sukh Shakya has passed away at the age of 60 on Monday. Member of District Sports Development Committee Bhimsen Shakya informed that Sukh Shakya died while undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara.

Sukh, a resident of Naubisetol, Baglung Municipality-3, was suffering from pneumonia. Shakya had taken compulsory leave from the post of assistant coach of table tennis in August last year. When Sukh was a player, he played in many national competitions representing then Dhaulagiri zone.

Member Secretary Shakya said that Sukh won the medal in Dhawalagiri for the first time by playing table tennis. "He was a very good player. Later, players produced from his training were also known nationally," said Shakya. Member Secretary Shakya remembered Sukh as a disciplined and sociable personality.

Sukh had stayed in Kailali for a few years for sports training. Sukh served in District Sports Development Committee for a long time.

Rajan Kumar Paija, president of players and coaches' association Baglung, said that sports world of district was shocked by Sukh's demise. Sukh has a son and a daughter.
