Monastery of Tenga Rinpoche holds 3 Day long Ritual

In this critical time of pandemic religious institutes are keeping up with their prayers and aspiration. Currently, monks are doing Chod puja at Benchen Gompa, Swayambhu.

Chöd, is a spiritual practice in Buddhism. Also known as "Cutting Through the Ego,", the practices are based on the Prajñāpāramitā or "Perfection of Wisdom" sutras, which expound the "emptiness" concept of Buddhist philosophy. Gompa organises a three days long ritual of "Cutting Through the Ego". Starting from May 4 to May 6 monks at Benchen Monastery are preceding this ritual.

Some sources have characterized Machig Labdrön as the founder of the practice of Chöd. She is the originator of the Tibetan Buddhist Mahamudrā Chöd lineages.

Machig Labdrön is associated with furnishing the name "Chöd" and formulating distinct strategies to the practice.

Various Biographies indicate it was conveyed to her via sources of the mahāsiddha and tantric traditions. Among the constructive significances on Mahamudrā Chöd was Dampa Sangye's Pacification of Suffering.

In this specific ritual of  "Cutting Through the Ego" bell and damaru is extensively used.  In Vajrayana Buddhism, these drums and bells are furthermore symbols potent with importance. The bell, embodying the wisdom of “emptiness" and the drum affirming “bliss”.

Symbolically, sound reaches out to sentient beings in all realms of existence in the spiritual practice of Cutting through the Ego. The sound of the drum, accompanied by a bell is supposed to be the voice of the dakinis  which hold blessings and enable them to propel meditation visualization.

In the 1970s Tenga Rinpoche  bought a plot of land and following the advice of his 16th Karmapa the  monastery was built. In 1987 the foundation for Benchen Phuntsok  Dargyeling was laid.
