Special fair at Pashupatinath on the occasion of Mahashivaratri

Special fair has been organized at Pashupatinath in Kathmandu on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.

Hundreds of thousands of devotees had thronged Pashupatinath temple since Thursday morning. Mahashivaratri, celebrated every year at midnight on Falgun Krishna Chaturdashi, is special day to please Lord Shiva.

On the day of Shivaratri, followers of Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion bath in rivers, ponds and lakes and go to Shivalaya to worship.

Named after the night of Shivaji's birth, this festival is mentioned in Shiva Purana and other scriptures as one of the four major nights called Kalaratri, Moharatri, Sukharatri and Shivaratri.

This year, on the occasion of Mahashivaratri, three lines have been arranged for visiting Pashupati. As the risk of corona virus remains high, masks have been made mandatory for devotees visiting Pashupatinath temple.

Fund also informed that the devotees who came without wearing masks were returned. Fund has also called on the devotees to follow health standards issued by government.

According to Pashupati Area Development Fund, number of saints coming to Pashupati on the occasion of Mahashivaratri has halved due to corona risk.

There is an ancient tradition of providing free food, dhuni and other necessities to saints who come to Pashupati on Mahashivaratri from Falgun Krishna Ekadashi.
