New rules in Saudi Arabia, allowing foreign workers to change jobs and leave the country without permission

Saudi Arabia, one of the most attractive destinations for Nepalis for employment, has improved its fleet system.

Now, foreign workers, including Nepalis, who have gone to work there, do not have to take employer's permission to change jobs and leave the country. According to Gulf News, citing local media Al Arabiya, amended rule has been officially implemented since Sunday.

Last November, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Affairs announced new conditions for foreign workers, including improvements to the country's fleet system.

According to the same announcement, after the new rules come into force on Sunday, foreign workers will now be able to do other work without the permission of employer after their contract expires.

In addition, subject to certain time and conditions, workers will be able to change jobs even if the agreement is not finalized.

Foreign workers will now be able to travel outside of Saudi Arabia without employer's prior approval by submitting an application and online notice to employer.

Even after the employment agreement expires, worker will be able to leave Saudi Arabia without employer's approval by giving online information.

Fleet system was introduced in 1950s after oil was discovered in Arab countries, which began to bring in foreign workers. System is now in use in Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the UAE.
