Senate begins hearing on impeachment of Trump

Senate has formally begun hearing the impeachment of former US President Donald Trump. The hearing process has moved forward after the impeachment was declared constitutional in a vote in Senate.

All 50 senators from Democratic Party and six from the Republican Party voted in favor of moving the impeachment hearing forward.

BBC reports that Senate is unlikely to convict Trump, even if the trial goes ahead.

Earlier, former President Trump's lawyers presented a response to the indictment against him. They have been claiming that Trump was not involved in the January 6 violent attack on the parliament building.
