Myanmar coup: Protests in Yangon against the army, traffic jam

Thousands of protesters marched in various cities across Myanmar on February 1 in protest of army's takeover of power.

In Yangon, motorists block roads. There have been roadblocks and demonstrations under the disobedience program.

In Mandalay, security officials opened fire near a train station, injuring at least one person.

Protesters are demanding the release of other elected leaders, including leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi was indicted on Tuesday.

Army has reiterated its promise to hold another election, but many protesters have expressed skepticism.

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Myanmar has warned of possible military violence in Myanmar.

Despite reports of no major untoward incident in Myanmar on Wednesday, a video that appeared on social media showed security forces firing several rounds at Mandalay railway station.

According to reports, protesters tried to stop the train carrying army supplies from moving forward.

Railway officials said they were forced to move at gunpoint.

Demonstrations have also taken place in other cities in Myanmar. In the capital, Nepal, engineers, doctors and teachers took part in a program to show solidarity with army.

Demonstrations on Wednesday almost paralyzed Yangon's traffic.

The call to block the road on social media started gaining momentum on Wednesday morning.

Event was organized with the aim of getting government employees to go to the office and affect the movement of security agencies.

During the protest called "Road Blocking Day", bonnets of vehicles were opened and vehicles were parked at various places.
