Myanmar army approves 20-year prison sentence for protesters

Military is set to crack down on those who speak out against military coup in Myanmar. By amending existing law, army has warned protesters to be jailed for 20 years. Army, which overthrew elected government, has amended law to restrict civil rights.

According to amended law, any act of inciting hatred towards army by speaking, writing or gesturing will be punished with imprisonment. Similarly, those found trying to create fear or unrest in public will be sentenced to three to seven years in prison.

Army detained leaders, including Democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi, on February 1. People of Myanmar have intensified their protests demanding release of leaders, including Sookie, and restoration of democracy.
