Hevajra puja at Vajra Vidya

As per advice of H.H. karmapa annual Hevajra puja is taking place at Vajra Vidya Institute. This is the 4th day of Hevajra puja at Vajra Vidya institute situated at pilgrimage site of Sarnath, Varanasi,India.

About Hevajra, it is said to be the ultimate perfection of all classes of tantra that is deep, unique. Transmission lineage evolved from Naropa, Maitripa, krisancarya, Samaya vajra, Virupa, Padma vajra to Shantipa in India. This lineage in Tibet entered with Marpa and passed down to Drogmi lotsawa, Go lotsawa etc.

Hevajra is blue in colour, with a headdress of skull crowns topped by a Buddha Akshobhya. He is usually characteristically shown with 8 heads, 4 legs, and 16 arms. A form of Hevajra embraces with his female consort Nairatma. The Hevajra Tantra teaches the Union of Skillful Means and Wisdom.

Hevajra belongs to the eight great Herukas. The non-dual highest yoga tantra is the final completeness of all classes. It is the intense, successful and unbelievable yoga that was brought to Tibet from India.

Hevajra is the essence of Vajradhara, the highest non-duality. In union with his Prajna Nairatmya, Hevajra symbolizes the unity of compassion and wisdom.

Nairatma  embodies realization of  pudgala-Nairatma , the not-permanent-selfness of a person. She represents infinite space, the limitless expanse of her awareness. She flows through the universe without impediment.

She has transcended ego-centered existence. She is the one who understands the mysteries and depths of life. Always poised to sever negative mind states wherever they arise and pulverizes illusions and returns them to their original state as a mere play of light, a rainbow of energy, shimmering in empty space. The term Naitramya indicates nirvana or sunyata. Thus, they carry great significance in Vajrayana Buddhism.

Vajra Vidya Institute is not just a monastery but a monastic college offering training in higher Buddhist philosophy. It was established to preserve the Karma Kagyu lineage of scripture and realization.

The monks here study the major texts of the Kagyu lineage on Buddhist philosophy, logic, debate, grammar, and poetry. Also numbers of young monks are learning to read, write, and recite Tibetan in this institution.

It is considered powerful enough to bestow mundane accomplishments as well as transmundane accomplishments of Nirvana. Rituals are being conducted by tulkus and monks From the monastery.
