Gaddi Baithak opens for the public

Gaddi Baithak, which was damaged due to the earthquake, will now be open to the public.

It was said that it will be opened immediately after the reconstruction but it took some time as some internal preparations were needed.

Realizing the need for a special kind of separate meeting room to welcome foreigners and Britishers , Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher built the Meeting hall named (Gaddi Baithak) in 1965 at Basantapur Durbar in European architecture.

Official meetings with foreign guests were held in this building during monarchy. But as the King settled in the Narayanhiti  palace, its use got diminished.

At present, it is used only when the head of state visits the living goddess Kumari and during an annual festival called (IndraJatra).
