Facebook bans news content in Australia

Social networking site Facebook has banned news in Australia. Amid ongoing controversy over Australia's new law, Australian users have been barred from viewing news and sharing news links on Facebook.

Australia has introduced a law requiring people to pay for using Australian news, including Facebook and Google. After Australia's lower house of parliament passed law on Wednesday, Facebook has banned some government websites, including news.

Facebook and Google have said law, introduced by Australian government, is inconsistent with how Internet operates.

Even Australian media is not allowed to post news on their Facebook page. According to BBC, there are no posts on Facebook pages of news organizations like ABC and Sydney Morning.
