Pakistan in darkness with power cut

"A countrywide blackout has been caused by a sudden plunge in the frequency in the power transmission system," Pakistan's Power Minister, Omar Ayub Khan, wrote on Twitter in the early hours of Sunday. Mr Khan later said that power had been restored in some regions, including the city of Peshawar. He added that an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the blackout.

Though power cuts are common to occur in Pakistan but this time people burst out in anger showing agitation in streets as many areas had no electricity for several hours a day. Many places including capital cities such as Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi went black out for several hours. Essential sectors including Hospitals have been affected, hospitals are using diesel-fuelled generators as a back-up power supply.
