Japan declares 1-month state of emergency after corona outbreak

State of emergency has been declared in Japanese capital, Tokyo, as coronavirus epidemic continues to spread. Japanese government declared a month-long state of emergency on Thursday, said officials.

Prime Minister Yoshihida Suga said a state of emergency had to be imposed as high alert was being reached. State of emergency has been declared in Tokyo area since Friday.

Under the state of emergency, restaurants and bars have been banned from selling and distributing alcohol after 7 pm, and an hour later, their services will be closed overnight. The provision will remain in place until further notice, said officials.

Prime Minister Suga has made a special request to the youth not to go to bars and restaurants. Prime Minister Suga also made a special request to the youth as more than half of those infected in Tokyo are under the age of three.

"Please comply with the government's request. It is necessary to save lives of your father, mother, grandfather, mother and friends along with you," said Prime Minister Suga. Government has urged businesses in Tokyo to operate as long as possible so that buyers can make demands by phone and sellers can deliver wherever they want. 

Number of infected people in Japanese capital, Tokyo, has risen by 2,448 on Thursday. Officials also said that 7,490 people have been infected across the country. More than 3,700 people have died of coronavirus infection in Japan so far.
