Recent high-level visits to Nepal from China and India an achievement: Gyawali

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradip Kumar Gyawali described the recent high-level visit to Nepal from neighboring China and India as an achievement.

At a meeting of Committee on International Relations of House of Representatives on Friday, Gyawali said that visits from both the countries were important to further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance mutual cooperation.

Stating that visit of Indian Foreign Secretary Shringala to Nepal and India, which was suspended after the transition of Covid-19, has begun, Minister Gyawali said that border issue between two countries has been included in formal agenda.

Gyawali said that a meeting of Nepal-India Joint Committee would be held soon and initiatives would be taken to resolve outstanding issues between the two countries as much as possible.

Gyawali also said that visit of Chinese Defense Minister Wei to Nepal was important for exchanging military assistance and further strengthening bilateral ties. Minister Gyawali also said that visit was fruitful to speed up the agreement reached during Chinese President's visit to Nepal last year.

During the meeting, Bhim Rawal, an MP from ruling CPN (Maoist), objected to the meeting of Samant Kumar Goyal, head of India's intelligence agency RAW, with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Recalling that India has been manipulating Nepal through intelligence agencies since past and its opposition from people, Rawal said that such activities should not be allowed to repeat in coming days.

Similarly, MP Prakash Man Singh had inquired about the border dispute not only with India but also with China. MP Divyamani Rajbhandari had demanded that people should be informed about foreign policy of government.

Chairperson of committee Pavitra Niraula informed that national security policy of the country would be discussed with Ministry of Defense at the next meeting of committee.
