Qatari team in Nepal to seek help in Asian Games

Qatar Olympic Committee has sought Nepal's support for hosting 21st Asian Games in Qatar.

A delegation led by Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary General Jasim Rashid Albunin met officials of Nepal Olympic Committee yesterday and sought their support for 2030 Asian Games to be held in Qatar.

Qatar is bidding for 2030 Asian Games. Voting for 21st Asian Games will take place at 39th OCA General Assembly of Asian Olympic Committee on December 16 in Muscat, Oman. So far, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in hosting 21st Asian Games.

Nepal will also vote to host Games in one of the two countries. Along with Nepal, 45 countries will vote.

Chairman of Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha said that Qatari Olympic Committee expects Nepal's support in view of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Nepal and employment of many Nepalese in Qatar. However Shrestha acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat President Conte's government.

Shrestha also informed that team of Qatar Olympic Committee will organize Asian Games as a model.

Qatar Olympic Committee has sought Nepal's support saying that Nepali athletes will also get good support and morale of the athletes will increase when Asian Games are organized in Qatar. Qatar, which hosted Asian Games in 2006, is also hosting 2022 FIFA World Cup.
