India confirms six cases of new UK variant virus

India has confirmed six news cases of UK variant virus which was first traced in UK. In The six infected individuals are being kept in isolation, officials said on Tuesday.

India has suspended flights to and from the UK last week.  The new variant is considerably more contagious than previous one but not so dangerous, experts say. India has the second-highest number of COVID-19 infections in the world after the US.

Contact-tracing of family, friends and contacted people by the six infected individuals have already started. Passengers arriving from the UK mandatorily need to undergo RT-PCR tests at all airports in the country.

Around 33,000 passengers have arrived in India from the UK over the past month. Of those, 114 were found to be positive for coronavirus - their samples have been sent to ten labs for genome sequencing, according to the officials.

In the UK, health officials have warned that the country's "very high" Covid infection level is a "growing concern". On Monday, a record 41,385 Covid cases and 357 deaths were reported in the UK.
