Health workers and staff of Bir Hospital on strike for 44 days

Health workers and employees of Bir Hospital have been protesting for 44 days saying that they have not received services prescribed by government.

Agitated health workers have also staged a sit-in at Bir Hospital premises on Tuesday and locked office of officials of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS).

Health workers and employees have not even allowed NAMS officials to enter the hospital.

Spokesperson of Bir Hospital Employees' Movement Joint Struggle Committee, Dhurba Raj Acharya, said that they were forced to agitate as health workers working for the treatment of Covid-19 patients did not even get services prescribed by the government.

Spokesperson Acharya said that agitation had been going on for 44 days with various demands but their demands were ignored by NAMS officials. Acharya said that service of Bir Hospital was affected due to managerial weakness of the hospital.

Spokesperson Acharya said that only 40 beds are available in 400-bed Bir Hospital and 350 beds are vacant. Spokesperson Acharya said that all services of Bir Hospital should be made smooth.

Stating that there are two types of employees in Bir Hospital, namely government and NAMS, Spokesperson Acharya said that government should provide services to employees on both sides as only government employees get service facilities but employees under NAMS do not get service facilities.

Stating that it is not difficult for government to fulfill its demands, Spokesperson Acharya warned that all services of hospital will be suspended if their demands are not met within next 19 days.
