World Toilet Day celebrated all over the world

World Toilet Day is celebrated all over the world including Nepal on Thursday.

This day is celebrated focusing on the impact of lack of toilets or sanitation on people's livelihood. Goal of global sustainable development is to have access to toilets for every person by 2030.

Nepal has been declared an open defecation free country on September 29, 2010. Although the program was launched with the aim of declaring Nepal open defecation free by 2017, it was delayed and declared open defecation free last year.

But still many people in Nepal have no access to toilets. Open defecation free campaign seems to be meaningful only if toilets including wastewater and defecation treatment toilets are made accessible to all.

Similarly, people have been complaining about the lack of public toilets in Kathmandu Valley. General public is of view that not only celebrating Toilet Day on one day of the year but also spreading awareness about the need for toilets throughout the year.

The need for public toilets has increased due to increasing urbanization and population. But it has not been managed properly. According to World Health Organization, millions die each year from diarrhea due to lack of safe toilets.
