Sunakothi road closed by locals

Locals are protesting again saying that Sunakothi-Chapagaun road in Lalitpur has not been tarred even after years.

Newaz Club and locals have been blocking road since Sunday morning, pressuring government to build road jointly. Locals had blocked road last year after the contractor left road unattended for years even though it was demolished saying that it would be widened.

Although an agreement was reached to open road later, road has not been constructed yet. According to locals, they were forced to take part in agitation even after one year of agreement.

Locals have complained that road construction has not been completed even after the demolition of road. Similarly, they have taken a stand not to sit in any talks this time and to agitate until roads are tarred.

In 2071 BS, a contract agreement was signed to widen road from Satdobato of Lalitpur to Tahakhel of Chapagaun by 11 meters wide. Contract for construction of road was given to Sharada Adhikari's Shailung Construction.

Houses and other structures have been demolished in some places to widen road. But road construction could not be completed due to compensation dispute.

Locals have taken to the streets again saying that they have played games with their health by not paying compensation and not even repairing damaged road.
