New Year Nepal Samvat 1141 has started from Monday. On this day, Shankhadhar Sakhwa established Nepal Samvat in the name of country by freeing people living in slavery from debt.
In recognition of the unique contribution made by Sakhwa during the reign of Lichhavi King Raghavdev, Government of Nepal has declared Sakhwa as a national hero. Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha has laid a wreath at the statue of Shankhadhar Sakhwa at Madhyapurthimi in Bhaktapur on the occasion of Nepal 1141 BS.
On the occasion, Minister Shrestha said that Nepal is not only a monolithic caste but also a fundamental monarchy of all Nepalis. Stating that in the past, Bhaitika and Kija Puja were performed on the same day, they were celebrated on different days in the last few years. New day of Nepal Samvat will commemorate the contribution of pioneer Shankhadhar Sakhwa every year.
Minister Shrestha said that government was constructing a statue of Shankhadhar in Ratna Park of the capital and added that it was necessary to bring Nepal Samvat in government work and practical use. Message sent by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on the occasion of Nepal Samvat 1141 BS was read out in the program.
