Indian Army Chief on three-day visit to Nepal

Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Mukunda Narwane has arrived in Nepal for a three-day visit at formal invitation of Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa.

Authorized Rathi Prabhuram Sharma greeted him at Tribhuvan International Airport, according to Nepal Army.

General Narwane has come to Nepal to receive honorary title of Maharathi of Nepal Army as per the tradition of awarding honorary Maharathi status to Chiefs of Army Staff of the two countries.

On Thursday, General Narwane will be conferred honorary rank of Maharathi of Army by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari. On the same occasion, General Narwane will have a meeting with the President.

General Narwane is 18th Army Chief of Staff to receive honorary title from Nepal. Nepal Army has informed that main purpose of the visit of Army Chief Narawane is to continue the tradition.

Chief of Army Staff Narwane will pay homage at Veerasmarak at Sainik Manch Tundikhel on Thursday morning. After that, he is scheduled to inspect army guard at army headquarters. After that, Chief of Army Staff Thapa will have a formal meeting with his counterpart General Narwane.

On the same occasion, Army Chief Narwane will hand over medical supplies to Nepal Army as per the agreement reached at 13th meeting on security cooperation exchange between two countries.

A dinner will be organized in his honor at Jangi Adda tomorrow. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to have a formal meeting with Army Chief Narwane on Friday.

Media personnel who went to cover the visit of Indian Army Chief Narawane to Nepal were stopped by the security personnel. Media personnel who had entered through the main gate of airport were stopped by the police in the parking area while some were stopped at the main gate.
