Arnab Goswami remanded in judicial custody for 14 days

Arnab Goswami, an Indian journalist arrested in a suicide incitement case, has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Late last night, a Mumbai court remanded Goswami and two others in judicial custody for 14 days.

Goswami's lawyer has applied for bail. Petition is likely to be heard on Thursday, Indian media reported. Goswami has been accused of forcing interior designer Anvayak Naik and his mother Kumud Naik to commit suicide in 2018.

Goswami, who is also the editor-in-chief of Republic Television, was arrested by police from his residence in Mumbai on Wednesday morning.

Interior designer Anvayak Naik and his mother Kumud Naik were found dead in May 2018 at their farm house in Kabir village in Alibag taluka. Suicide note found there states that Feroze Sheikh and Nitesh Sarada, along with Arnab, did not pay Rs 50 million which leads them to commit sucide.

In 2019, Raigad police closed the case file. After Naik's daughter's complaint, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh again directed police to investigate.
