Tatopani checkpoint closed again

Tatopani checkpoint, which was reopened after three months, has been closed again.

Tatopani checkpoint was reopened on Sunday. China has unilaterally stopped imports of customs goods after it was confirmed of corona virus to the workers who were loading and unloading customs goods.

During the test in Nepal, corona report of all the three workers was negative. However, the import to China has been stopped due to the positive test.

During a meeting between Nepal and China officials at Miteripul on September 29, it was agreed to open the checkpoint on the condition of controlling corona virus.

Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal said that discussions are underway to raise awareness on both sides as corona infection could spread.

The checkpoint was opened with the agreement of both the countries as per the plan to deliver 150 containers of goods stuck in Khasa and Nyalam to Kathmandu ten years ago.

CDO Dhakal said that discussions are underway with the Chinese authorities on a new modality of import so as not to affect the approaching festival Dashain. So far, 12 containers of goods have entered Nepal.
