Taiwan signs arms deal with US

Taiwan has signed an arms deal with the United States amid rising tensions with China.

The US Department of State has approved 1.8 billion arms deal with Taiwan. China has recently stepped up pressure on Taiwan. China has been sending troops to monitor sensitive areas in Taiwan.

Taiwan's defense minister thanked the United States for the agreement, saying it was necessary to "fight the enemy's challenge and the new situation."

China is expected to oppose Taiwan's move. The United States has also decided to sell arms to Taiwan to irritate China over its recent strained relations.
