Nobel Prize for three scientists for detecting the hepatitis C virus

The Nobel Prize in Medicine for 2020 will be awarded to three scientists who have discovered the hepatitis C virus, the selection committee said on Monday.

The Nobel Council of Karolinska Institute announced on Monday that it would reward British scientist Michael Hutton and two American scientists, J. Alter and Charles M. Rice, for discovering the hepatitis C virus.

The Nobel Prize Foundation has said that this year's 10 million Swedish kronor will be shared equally among the three personalities who have been awarded the Nobel Prize. Because of their research, for the first time in history, hepatitis C has been cured worldwide.

These scientists, who have been announced to be awarded Medical Prize of 2020, have made it possible to test and treat the incurable disease of chronic hepatitis, which kills hundreds of millions of people every year.

Thomas Pearlmann, secretary general of the Nobel Committee, told a news conference that he was "surprised, delighted and delighted" to meet two of the three recipients and that they had been awarded the prize.
