Convenience price shop operation from today

 

Government has been bringing discount stores across the country, including Kathmandu Valley, since Thursday, targeting festivals including Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.

Government has been operating such concessional price shops every year with the objective of providing relief to the consumers even during the festive season. This year is a continuation of the same.

This year, food and trade companies have made additional arrangements for consumers in the Valley and Surkhet to buy rice, pulses, nuts and other items sold online.

The government has made arrangements to buy goods online from food and trade companies so that there is no congestion due to Covid-19 this year.

A minimum discount of Rs 2 to a maximum of Rs 30 will be given on goods sold by Food Management and Trading Company, Salt Trading and Dairy Development Institute DDC under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

Urmila KC, Joint Spokesperson of Ministry, informed that the discount store will be opened 15 days before Dashain, Tihar and other festivals this year.

According to Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, there will be 65 convenience stores in Kathmandu Valley and 16 other major cities of the country.

The convenience store will be operational till November 20. Sugar, salt, rice, ghee, pulses, nuts and even meat will be available at discounted prices in the integrated convenience stores.

In these discount stores, you will get a discount of Rs 5 per kg on rice, Rs 2 per kg on salt, Rs 10 per kg on basmati rice, gedagudi or karnali’s bean and Rs 5 per kg on sugar.

Similarly, live price in Changra and Khasiboka was Rs 10 per kg. The ministry has stated that 10 exemptions will be given. DDC will give a discount of Rs 30 per liter on ghee.

The food management and trading company, Salt Trading and Dairy Development Institute will operate the convenience store, ministry said. Similarly, there are plans to operate three mobile shops in Kathmandu.

Across the country, Salt Trading will give discounts to 35, food management and trading companies to 30 and Dairy Development Corporation to all sales outlets. DDC will give discounts of Rs 30 per liter on ghee.

According to Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, there will be convenience stores in 11 places in Kathmandu Valley including Singha Durbar, Teku, Kalimati, Koteshwor, Satungal, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.

Similarly, Salt Trading will operate 11 shops in Kathmandu Valley with three roundabouts and 24 shops outside Kathmandu Valley.

The ministry has stated that salt trading convenience stores will be set up in Banepa, Birtamod, Biratnagar, Rajbiraj, Lahan and other cities outside Kathmandu Valley.
