Scrub typhus patients increasing

Thirty people with scrub typhus have been found in Doti. A month-long trial at the district hospital found such a large number of scrub typhus patients.

According to the district hospital, the number of scrub typhus patients has been found during the investigation conducted from July 6 to September 8.

Dr. Pramod Bhatta, MDGP of the district hospital, said that some of the infected patients were referred for treatment at a well-equipped hospital outside the district due to the need for ICU.

Scrub typhus is transmitted by the bite of an insect called mite and the disease enters the liver, brain, lungs and kidneys through the blood and causes various symptoms, informed Bhatta.

The health workers have suggested that special emphasis should be laid on hygiene to prevent the disease and if any symptoms of fever and headache are seen, they should be immediately checked at the health institution.

As the number of scrub typhus patients is increasing, public health awareness is being spread through the health office, said Ramesh Malasi, chief of the health office.
