Protest rally at Charikot

Police have intervened in a protest rally organized by the Dolakha Congress saying that the consumers who went to the village to seek drinking water have been arrested.

On Sunday evening, Dolakha Congress had staged a demonstration in Charikot of Dolakha demanding the release of a drinking water consumer who was arrested without any reason. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

Five people, including the chairperson of the Consumers' Committee, were arrested in a dispute over the municipality's attempt to transfer the budget for the drinking water project in Melung Village Municipality-4, Bhedpusthit at the beginning of the fiscal year.

There was a dispute between the consumers and villagers who had gone to the village municipality on August 3 to hand over the memorandum. As the dispute escalated, consumers locked the village municipality office.

After the lockout, a police team from Charikot arrested Pravin Thokar, Kumar Gole, Madhukar Gole and Sapan Gole along with Consumers Committee Chairman Kripashwor Gole.

Dolakha Congress has protested in Charikot over the same issue.
