Protest in Pulchwok for Rato Machhindranath's chariot ride

Local youths have staged a protest in Lalitpur's Pulchowk, forcing Rato Machhindranath to travel in a chariot.

Protesters protested saying that the Guthi Institute and the concerned bodies were not willing to conduct the rath yatra which was stopped due to the corona virus infection.

Protesters have demanded to conduct the procession in a few days as the Malmas will start in a few days and there will be no rath yatra during that period.

The protesting youths have displayed placards saying that the rath yatra should be ensured and no one should interfere in the rath yatra.

Meanwhile, the youths have even tried to pull Rato Machhindranath's chariot in Pulchowk. Protesters had pulled the chariot from the place where the chariot was. I

n the process, the rope used to pull the chariot was broken and a new rope was put in place. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

The priests of Machhindranath, astrologers and other stakeholders have also prepared a blueprint for the rath yatra as the Purushottam month will start on September 14 and religious activities will not be held in the month of Purushottam.

But the administration has not given permission for the chariot ride. The idol was placed in the chariot only on September 17 due to corona infection.
