Nepal Train reached Janakpur

Train purchased by the Government of Nepal has reached Janakpur. The train, which is painted red, blue and white with the national flag of Nepal, reached Janakpur from Hajipur station in Patna, India via Jayanagar.

This is the first time in the history of Nepal that broad gauge train service has become regular by expanding the service almost six years after the closure of train service.

Company has handed over two sets of new trains constructed by Konkan Railways Corporation Limited, a state-owned company of India, to operate on Janakpur-Jayanagar route.

Department of Railways had in May 2019 signed an agreement with Konkan Railway Corporation, a state-owned company of India, to purchase the train for Rs 846.5 million.

Six bogies with engines can carry 1,200 to 1,300 passengers at a time and have seating capacity of 75 per bogie.

Director General of the Railway Department Balram Mishra said that if all the preparations are completed on time, it can be brought into operation after one month.

Government had announced to run Janakpur-Jayanagar train from December 2075 BS. At present, the leak of Janakpur-Jayanagar railway is not in perfect condition.

Due to the floods in 2075 BS, the railway was severely damaged. The department has stated that Indian side is working for the maintenance of the railway.

The government has handed over the operation of the railway service to the state-owned Nepal Railway Company.
