More than 600 medical personnel themselves infected with Covid-19 within Kathmandu Valley only

Covid-19 infection has become more prevalent among health workers in recent days. While the infection of Covid-19 is on the rise across the country, the health workers working in the forefront in the Kathmandu Valley have also started showing the infection.

Along with the security personnel deployed to prevent and control the infection, the health workers have also started showing the infection.

Dr. Vasudev Pandey, Director, Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases Control Division, informed that the health workers working in the treatment of the infection have increasingly been infected themselves.

Dr. Sameer Kumar Adhikari, Joint Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the health workers are directly involved in the prevention and control of the infection.

According to him, more than 600 infections among health workers  have been reported in the Kathmandu Valley so far. He said that the health workers working in the front line of Covid-19 Hospital, Covid-19 testing, home isolation, quarantine and contract tracing have had infections.

So far, 15,138 people have been infected in the Kathmandu Valley. On Friday alone, 859 people were infected. Most of the health workers of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital have been infected.

According to Dr. Santa Kumar Das, coordinator of the management committee of Covid-19, more than 150 health workers have been infected in the teaching hospital. Of them, 21 are doctors, most are nurses and ward assistants.

He said that many of the infected have recovered and returned home. At present, only 27 health workers are actively infected in the hospital.

Similarly, 115 health workers have been infected at Bir Hospital. According to Dr. Kedar Century, Executive Director of Bir Hospital, 25 of them are doctors, 35 nurses and other ward and administration staff. He informed that 25 percent of the infected have recovered and come to work.

Similarly, eight people have been infected at Sukraraj Tropical and Communicable Diseases Hospital. Among them are two doctors and other nurses.

The director of the hospital, Dr Sagar Raj Bhandari, said that two doctors and a nurse had recovered and five others were in home isolation.

At present, 61,593 people have been infected across the country, while 43,820 have returned home after recovering from the infection and 390 have died from the infection.
