Shree Krishna Janmastami being observed today - public celebrations and events cancelled

Adherents of Vedic Sanatan Dharma are celebrating Shri Krishna Janmashtami today. This festival is celebrated with reverence and devotion by worshiping Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna is believed to have been born at midnight on Bhadra Krishna Ashtami in the Dwapara Yuga. Today is called Krishna Janmashtami and night is called Moharatri. It is also customary to stay awake all night by chanting hymns tonight.

In her best wishes on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari sent a  message wishing that the festival strengthen emotional unity by awakening mutual love, compassion and friendship. She also wished happiness, peace, prosperity and good health to Nepalis at home and abroad.

Today, a big fair is being held at the famous Krishna Temple at Mangalbazar in Patan. However, the fair has been postponed this year due to the risk of coronavirus infection.

Similarly, a puja at Nawatandham in Bishnu Budhanilkantha and Kageshwori Manohara Municipality that used to be conducted every year has been cancelled. The concerned municipalities have been doing miking to inform the public not to gather for celebrations.
