Rastrakabi Madhav Ghimire passes away at the age of 101

Born in 1976 in Pustun village of Lamjung district, Ghimire has made invaluable contributions to the flourishing of Nepali literature.

One of the popular poets of Nepal, Ghimire’s Gauri, Rajeshwari, Rashtranirmata, Papini Ama and other epic poems and excellent poems like Kaligandaki, Yuvak, Vaishakh as well as high level lyrical dramas like Malati Mangale have been published.

In 1994, his first collection of poems, Navmanjari, was published. His works contain patriotic, national heroic anthems, vivid depictions of nature, with similar sentiments towards both the past and the present.

Gauri Khandakavya is a great work of art in Nepali literature. He composed this unique mourning poem in memory of his wife Gauri's death.

Ghimire's Gauri and Laxmi Prasad Devkota's Munamadan have been at the forefront of the best-selling Nepali book exhibitions at home and abroad since its publication.

Ashwatthama, his Khandakabya, is considered to be a powerful depiction of love for humanity. Each of Ghimire's works carries the splendor of a nation and has touched people of all ages.

Netra Atom, a professor of Nepali at Tribhuvan University, says that the fragrance of Nepaliness is found in Madhav Ghimire's work. ‘He had an amazing ability to capture folklore and locality is found in his work. Even though he writes in classical verse, his poetry is full of Nepali originality, 'says Professor Atom.

He says that originality and Nepaliness can be found in all the words, thoughts, crafts and images. In his songs like 'Gaunch Geet Nepali' and 'Nepali Hami Rahaunla Kahan Nepalai Narahe', patriotism and national vibe have come alive.

After Lekhnath Poudel, Madhav Ghimire appears to have made another important contribution in bringing Nepali literature into the modern age. Even though he is very sophisticated, the height of romantic poetry has been achieved by Madhav Ghimire.

Influenced by Kalidasa, the best Sanskrit poet, and Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel Laureate in Bengali literature, Ghimire has also successfully presented the depth of philosophy and refinement of thought in his poetry.

According to Dr. Lekh Prasad Niraula, who has done research on Ghimire's work and is an associate professor of Nepali at Nepal Sanskrit University, Ghimire's poetry has acquired a beautiful form between the poetic style of the great poet Devkota and the sophisticated style of the poet Lekhnath Poudel. ‘He blended liberalism in thought and sophistication in craft in a beautiful way,’ says Dr Niraula.

Dr. Niraula says that his life is as beautiful as Madhav Ghimire's poems. "I visited him several times during the investigation. He always spoke to me warmly, 'he says.

Dr. Niraula says that he never hesitates to criticize anyone. "He didn't criticize when I tried to talk to him about competing with his contemporaries.

“Probably because he has a positive attitude towards everyone and connects life with nature, he may have had a long life, 'he says.

Dr. Niraula remembers that all the pain and anxiety disappeared when he went to visit him. According to Dr. Niraula, Ghimire emphasizes the positive side of life.

Literary lovers have said that the demise of national poet Madhav Ghimire has ended an era of Nepali literature. President Vidyadevi Bhandari has tweeted that Ghimire's demise has shocked her.

'I am shocked by the news of the sad demise of national poet Madhav Prasad Ghimire. We will always remember his contribution to the prosperity of the nation and Nepali literature through poetry. Tribute to the late national poet and deep condolences to the bereaved family! '
