Vehicles cannot be operated in the current situation

Even though the government has given permission to operate public transport, businessmen have said that it is not possible to operate vehicles in the status quo. Stating that the government has not addressed their demands, the businessmen have concluded that they cannot drive immediately.

It was told during a press conference after the meeting of the National Federation of Nepali Transport Entrepreneurs on Friday that they could not drive immediately.

He said that the government has not come up with any concept of security even if it wants to run public transport. Therefore, the decision of the government cannot be accepted, said the businessmen.

They demanded that the government meet the safety standards set by the World Health Organization in all public transport vehicles and also make arrangements for the health protection of transport workers.

Entrepreneurs have demanded complete simplification of bank installments and interest rates, extension of installment payment period, exemption from vehicle tax, and introduction of appropriate standards for all types of vehicles as physical distance cannot be maintained.

Saroj Sitaula, general secretary of the federation, said that even if the government suddenly asks to run public transport, it cannot be done without addressing the demands of the businessmen.

"We are ready to act in accordance with the procedures laid down by the government, but demands such as security guarantees, driver and co-driver insurance should be addressed.

In the current situation, vehicles cannot be taken out immediately, 'said Sitaula. The government, on the other hand, has prepared a procedure for operating transport, which will require the provision of masks, mandatory sanitizer in vehicles and maintaining social distance

Entrepreneurs are invited for further discussion

Gogan Bahadur Hamal, Director General of the Department of Transport Management, said that the businessmen should drive their vehicles even after adopting safety measures after the 50 percent fare hike.

He said, "We have called for further discussion on Sunday on the additional demands of the businessmen." We will create an environment where vehicles can run after the discussion. '
