PM K.P Oli’s Address to The Nation on Friday

Respected sisters and brothers,

Today, I have come here with the pain of the loss of property of the people affected by floods, landslides and natural calamities in different parts of the country. I have been shocked and saddened by the news of floods and landslides caused by incessant rains in different parts of the country for the past few days.

Eleven districts of the country have been affected by floods and landslides from June 12 to July 10. So far, landslides have damaged eight districts including Parbat, Bajhang, Gulmi, Lamjung, Kaski, Rukum West, Jajarkot and Dolakha.

Sindhupalchowk, Tanahu and Myagdi districts have suffered heavy floods and landslides. Thirty-five people have been killed, 32 injured and 34 are still missing. One hundred houses have been damaged, three hundred and one families have been displaced.Necessary security personnel have been mobilized to rescue the landslide victims.

Relief has been provided by the federal, state and district disaster committees and arrangements have also been made to relocate the affected people to risk-free places.

I express my deep sorrow over the untimely loss of life of about three dozen Nepali brothers and sisters due to this natural calamity of floods and landslides. Wishing speedy recovery to the injured, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

Brothers and sisters,

Nepal has always been at high risk of various natural calamities such as floods, landslides, fires, lightning and earthquakes. Every year in summer we have to face the problem of fire and along with the rains we have to bear the loss due to floods and landslides.

The problem of losing one's home and losing one's livelihood due to disaster has become like the destiny of us Nepalis. In this process, the government has been paying full attention to the immediate rescue work without any effort.

At great risk, the army, police, staff, and all government agencies and allied agencies have been actively involved in rescue and relief work since the floods began. The government has been living with its citizens in such crises and problems in any part of Nepal.

At this time, my focus is on the survival of the common man. We can't even play games with epidemics and natural disasters to cause catastrophes.

I would like to make a special appeal to all of you here to join the rescue work in the respective places and focus on the support of your brothers and sisters.

While being aware of such natural disasters and focusing on urgent rescue, assistance and treatment, we must not forget the fact that we are in a long-term effort to control, treat and prevent the global corona epidemic. As in many other parts of the world, the Corona epidemic has not gone away

We have been focusing on the prevention, control and treatment of corona for almost four months now. And, we're working on managing and reviving Corona's impact on the economy.

As of July 10, 16,649 Nepalis have been infected with corona. The number of infected people who have lost their lives so far is 35, which is 0.21 percent of the total infected. According to the age group, the number of infected people above 21 years of age and under 40 years of age is more than 60 percent.

Clearly, a large number of infected people are in the active and working age group. Of the total infected, 48.1 percent or 8,011 have recovered and returned home. 51.9 percent of the total infected are still undergoing treatment. And, 23 thousand out of 110 people are in quarantine.

Brothers and sisters,

We have been emphasizing PCR testing of infected people from the beginning, and aimed to reach two percent of the total population.

Our efforts are ongoing and so far PCR tests have been performed on 275,000 infected people. This number is one thousand three hundred and seventy-seven per million population.

One lakh 10 thousand four hundred and sixty two security personnel have been mobilized for the prevention of corona. Along with the security personnel, a large number of doctors, health workers and other manpower are working day and night for the treatment as 'soldiers' of the advance front. In fact, it is with this manpower that we are able to move forward by defeating Corona.

During this period of lockdown, 288,864 Nepalis have returned from India and 23,254 Nepalis from various other countries.

Looking at the situation by province till July 10, the highest number of infected people is in province no. 2. Then respectively province no. 5, Far Western Region, Karnali Region, Gandaki Region, Region no. 1 and Bagmati province. This situation has also changed as our efforts have brought the corona infection under control.

With the easing of the lockdown, the risk of infection is increasing in the Capital Valley. The number of infected people in the Kathmandu Valley has increased significantly between July 26 and 27. Of the 63 people infected in the entire Upatyaka on August 26, the total number reached 233 on April 8.

This indicates that the epidemic is gradually but rapidly growing in the Capital Valley. If this infection spreads in the community, it can even create a frightening situation. Therefore, we all need more seriousness, discipline and vigilance.

In order to protect the Capital Valley from epidemics, safe measures suggested by the Ministry of Health and doctors and health workers should be adopted in any case.

SMS for short - I want to draw everyone's attention to the work of maintaining social distance, using masks and washing hands from time to time.

Sisters and brothers,

At present, people's attention must be drawn to certain political issues and contexts. It is natural to have that kind of interest and curiosity.

Even in times of epidemics and natural disasters, the question of why there is political debate is no different. Debates and disputes within any political party are internal. It is the responsibility of the political parties and leaders concerned to bring it to a conclusion.

Such discussions, debates and disagreements within the party are very internal and in some cases a regular process. Such issues will be resolved through discussion between the parties concerned and their leaders. This requires patience and restraint.

Due to the current political scenario, some may be concerned about political stability, stability and the established system. I would like to assure you that I will make every effort to enhance the mutual unity among the Amanepalis, to protect the Federal Democratic Republic, to uplift the national pride, to uphold the sovereignty and geographical integrity of the country.

At this time, no one can be distracted from the responsibility of saving the lives of the people by getting involved in internal disturbances or problems.

As I have said before, the government will not back down from its responsibility to protect the people from disease and hunger. Therefore, all the attention and all the efforts of the government led by me and me are focused on the protection of the livelihood of the people affected by the epidemic and disaster.

Thank you.
