Expedite the reconstruction of the estate

 

The Development and Technology Committee under the House of Representatives has directed the government to expedite the reconstruction of the property.

The committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday has directed the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) to expedite the construction work by managing the resources of the caves and other institutions of archeological importance.

The meeting has instructed the Office of the Council of Ministers and NEA to ensure the ownership of the structures under construction at the end of the NEA's term on December 26, 2008.

The meeting also decided to monitor the historical and archeological towers and Ranipokhari sites under construction in Kathmandu, said Kalyani Kumari Khadka, chairperson of the committee. Khadka said that the tenure of NEA should be decided soon.

At the meeting, Chief Executive Officer of the National Reconstruction Authority Sushil Gyawali said that 57,623 houses have been reconstructed and 22,643 houses are under reconstruction.

Chief Executive Officer Gyawali informed that NEA has addressed more than 600,000 complaints and if not satisfied with NEA's decision, a complaint can be lodged with the Appellate Committee.

Chief Executive Officer Gyawali said that 86 integrated proposals have been received for the reconstruction of integrated settlements and attractive integrated settlements are being built in different places of the quake affected areas.

In the meeting of the committee, NEA informed about the reconstruction of schools, heritages of archeological importance, health institutions, government buildings and buildings of security agencies.The term of NEA is coming to an end next December.

The Reconstruction of Earthquake-Affected Structures Act, 2072 BS has a provision to add one more year if the Government of Nepal thinks it is necessary. In the meeting, the lawmakers had urged the NEA to pay special attention to the reconstruction of the monasteries.
