Community Transmissions of Covid-19 has Started

It has been feared that community transmission of the Covid-19 coronavirus has already started in Nepal.

Out of the total 15784 cases as of Sunday, 947 have been found to be infected from community transmission. However, their contact tracing has yet to be done.

According to the Minister of Health, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, a total of 6% of the infected have been found to have got infected through community transmission. The remaining were infected either while they were abroad or from people who returned from abroad.

According to experts, it is very important to check the people who have come in contact with the infected person. However, it does not seem to be going on well. The ministry has said that it has become difficult to test people who do not show any symptoms.

The government has just started testing people in the community level starting from Kapan, Tokha Hariyalibasti, Koteshwor, Maitidevi, Khusibu, Nakhhu, Bholasingh, Pyutar and Tinkune within the Kathmandu valley. Four people in the valley have been infected at the community level.
