6,000 families in Kailali affected by inundation

Houses of 6 thousand 23 families have been inundated in Kailali due to continuous rain for the past two days. Chief District Officer of Kailali, Yagya Raj Bohara, said that 2,000 of them have been displaced.

Joshipur and Bhajani municipalities have been most affected by the floods. According to the District Administration Office, 2,180 families in Bhajani have been affected by the floods.

In Bhajani-8 Thapapur alone, 1,170 families have been inundated and 200 families have been displaced. They have been kept at the local Godchaura Secondary School while 16 families of Bhajani-5 have set up tents on the postal highway, said Mayor Sher Bahadur Chaudhary.

Similarly, 2315 families have been inundated in Joshipur village municipality. Most of the wards of Joshipur have been inundated.

After Kandra and Kanda rivers broke their banks, most of the settlements in 1, 3, 5 and 7 have been inundated. One thousand of them returned home after the water level receded, said Prajia Bohara.

Similarly, the houses of 1,000 families in Janaki and 825 families in Tikapur have been inundated. Floods have destroyed 30 houses in Tikapur.

According to the municipality, houses were damaged in the floods in Shivanagar, Chamelipur and Vijayanagar ‘Mukta Kamaiya camps’. A team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army has been deployed to rescue the drowned family, said Bohara.
