Registration of Janata Samajwadi Party at Election Commission

The Janata Samajwadi Party, a coalition of the Rashtriya Janata Party (RJP) and the Samajwadi Party, has registered with the Election Commission for party registration.

Leaders including Baburam Bhattarai, Mahanta Thakur, Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato had reached the Election Commission to register the Janata Samajwadi Party.

They had submitted the required documents for party registration. The commission has registered party number 1392. Now, the commission will study the documents and issue a certificate of formal party registration to the socialists.

Senior leader of Janata Samajwadi Rajendra Mahato said that the party was registered after completing all the procedures. He said that Mahanta Thakur and Upendra Yadav would be the chairpersons of the party's central executive committee.

Similarly, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Ashok Rai and Rajendra Mahato are senior leaders in the 51-member executive committee. Similarly, the political committee will have 151 members and the central committee will have 701 members, said Mahatto.

He said that the people would remain socialist as an alternative force in Nepal and would continue to work for unity with other smaller parties.

The two parties had reached an agreement in principle for unity on the night of April 25. The next day, on the 11th, the leaders reached the Election Commission and applied for registration of a new party.

According to the Political Parties Act, the party constitution, party leadership, agreement to unite the party, signatures of the central members of both the parties and the decision of the joint meeting have to be submitted within 45 days of the announcement of unity between the two parties.
