Differences between big star hotels and small hotels: Federation of Hoteliers

The Federation of Hoteliers of Nepal has objected to the government discriminating between big star hotels and small hotels in the difficult situation of Covid-19.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, the federation said that it was forced to pay expensive fees at star hotels to keep the citizens coming from abroad in quarantine for 14 days and discriminated against small hotels by ignoring them.

Entrepreneurs have also demanded that the governments at all three levels be represented in the bodies under the federation while formulating revenue policy related to the tourism business.

Similarly, the federation has warned to agitate if the house rent is not waived during the lockdown period. At the press conference, Hiradhwaj Shah, president of the Federation of Hotel Entrepreneurs, an umbrella organization of small hoteliers, demanded a 50 percent discount on rent and a concession on the interest on bank loans of landlords.

He demanded one-year discount on electricity and water tariffs and special concessions on telephone and internet as the hotel would not be operational immediately after the lockdown.

Similarly, the federation has demanded one year tax exemption on business tax and revenue, extension of bank loan and interest payment period by two years and provision of loan at concessional interest rate.
