Opposition lawmakers say the budget is not as good as it used to be

The ruling party MPs have supported the budget for the fiscal year 2077/078 BS while the opposition party MPs have said that the budget is not excellent at present.

In Monday's meeting of the National Assembly, CPN (Maoist) 's Suman Raj Pyakurel said that the budget was excellent as emphasis was laid on prevention of COVID-19, continuity of old age allowance, operation of industries and cooperative farming.

He said that the budget presented by the government has helped the youths who have gone for foreign employment for employment at home.

Similarly, Terai-Madhesh has also been well addressed by the budget, he said .

Congress' Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi stressed on the need to activate the budget implementing body as last year's budget was frozen. He said that the budget could not come as per the hopes and trust of the Nepali people.

He also said that the government had distributed relief amounting to Rs. 800 million during Covid-19 but the target group did not get it.

Answering the question raised by the MP in the meeting, Finance Minister Dr.Yuvaraj Khatiwada said that the current year's estimate was 10 percent lower because the revenue could not rise much.

He said that arrangements have been made to raise loans within the limits given by the Constitutional Commission and the Finance Commission .He stressed on the need to increase the budget of the health sector.

He also said that the policy of promoting public electronic means is still in place. The next meeting of the National Assembly has been called at 11 am on Tuesday.
