Cyclone Amphan making millions of people leave home in India
The storm is expected to make landfall today afternoon millions of people residing near the Bay of Bengal have left their homes.
Scientists’ has estimated that the landfall might damage buildings and heavy flooding rains are expected though the storm is weakening as it is approaching landfall after setting a regional record.
Cyclone Amphan has registered winds of 165 miles an hour on Monday, the strongest cyclone ever recorded in the Bay of Bengal. Amphan is believed to be made because of climate change and rising ocean temperatures, scientists have long sought that tropical storms like Amphan would increase in strength as the world is warming at an alarming rate.
The expectation is based on the laws of physics and computer climate models. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have already been deployed in West Bengal to control any emergency situation emerging from the Cyclone.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said since the cyclone is gradually weakening, its impact is unlikely to be very severe on Odisha.
